BEST TIME TO VISIT

The ideal time to visit Kalimpong is throughout the year, barring from Mid June to Mid September due to heavy rainfall that can lead to landslides and disrupt travel plans. During the rest of the year, the weather is pleasantly cool and comfortable, with clear skies that offer stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. The spring and the summer season brings blooming flowers and vibrant greenery, making it perfect for sightseeing and outdoor activities. Autumn, on the other hand, provides a crisp and refreshing atmosphere, ideal for exploring the local attractions and enjoying the scenic beauty. During the winter season, some places in the district even experience snowfall.

DETAILED SUGGESTED ITINERARY (6N/7D)

Day 1: NJP/IXB/SGUJ to Deolo transfer. There are several interesting sightseeing spots along the way starting with Teesta Bazar, a vibrant local market where you can shop for traditional handicrafts, souvenirs, and taste local delicacies. It's an excellent place to experience the local culture and buy unique items. After breakfast, visit Coronation Bridge, a historic structure spanning over the Teesta River and providing breathtaking views. It's a popular stop for photographs and to enjoy the scenery. Adrenaline Junkies can stop at the Teesta River for an exhilarating white-water rafting experience. The river's rapids offer a thrilling ride amidst stunning natural beauty. Afterwards, visit the Lover’s Meet Viewpoint, located near the confluence of the Teesta and Rangeet rivers, offering panoramic view of the two rivers merging. It's a great spot for a quick break and some memorable photos.

Day 2: Kalimpong local sightseeing. Visit Dr. Graham’s Home, a historic educational institution established in 1900, set amidst beautiful grounds. It’s worth a visit for its colonial architecture and serene environment. Afterwards visit Lord Buddha Statue, Hanuman top and Mangal Dham and Thongsa Gompha, the oldest monastery in Kalimpong, established in 1692. After a short lunch break, visit the scenic 9 Point Army Golf Course. Move on to Morgan House, a typical colonial British architecture rumoured to be haunted. Afterwards visit Durpin Dara Monastery, the largest monastery in Kalimpong. Last but not the least, visit Pine View Nursery and Pratima Tagore House.

Day 3: Deolo to Rishyap transfer. Early morning, go for the exhilarating experience of paragliding. Then after breakfast, leave for Rishyap. Enroute visit Mayrong Forest.

Day 4: Kolakham sightseeing. Kolakham is a small village offering stunning views of the Eastern Himalayas, dense forests and a peaceful environment. Here lies Changey Waterfall, the highest in West Bengal. A short 10 minute hike will lead you there. You can also visit Neora Valley National Park, offering an opportunity to birdwatch and experience the biodiversity in the area. 

Day 5: Rishyap to Murti transfer. Enroute visit Lava Monastery, known for its scenic and architectural beauty, it is also home for Tibetan studies. Afterwards visit Paprkheti, a scenic picnic spot for the locals and Gorubathan. 

Day 6: Murti local sightseeing. Visit Jhalong and Bindu, two last villages of India, offering picturesque beauty. Afterwards visit Chalsa, Samsing and Suntalekhola, known for their expansive tea estates, orange orchards and small streams. Later, visit Rocky Island for some adventurous activities.

Day 7: Murti to NMZ/NJP/IXB/SGUJ drop. Early morning, go for jungle safari at Gorumara National Park. Upon returning have some breakfast and leave for home.
